After 5 years of doing watercolor painting....I still love doing it! I have tried acrylics...but my preference is watercolor. I am drawing more before I do a painting but at times I just let the paints flow! My favorite subjects are landscapes and seascapes. I hang them all around my home and notice that when I view them I feel a meditative calmness. So painting watercolors calms me and viewing them calms me.....Well...now I even love painting them more! Namaste.........Om.....Om....Om...Om.................! Mon, 07 May 2018 16:17:58 CDT "Quirky Critters" A few months ago an artist friend asked a group of 5 artists if we had heard of rock painting groups. Not one of us had heard a word but once she explained the idea of painting a rock, hiding it for someone to find, with no expectations other then the person possibly posting a picture of your rock on Facebook...or the finder just keeping the rock..you would just be sharing some joy......! We were hooked. What started with a group of just 6 artists is now a group with almost 500 members and rock painters! I was having so much fun painting quirky animals on my rocks that a short while ago I started painting "quirky critters" using my watercolors. I now have a series going and I am having a ball. What I learned from all of this is that art is everywhere we look and may even be on that rock hiding in a niche of a building near you! So"rock on"! Fri, 28 Jul 2017 10:32:31 CDT Why Artists Need Each Other... I started painting 4 years ago and when I took my first watercolor class I knew no one and the only thing I knew about watercolor painting is that I loved the medium. After a class or two the five beginners in the class bonded with each other. We had signed up for a beginning watercolor class but we found ourselves in a class where the majority of the artists had painted for over 20 years. As the classes went on we beginners formed a support group and we definitely needed this! This continued for the first few years of taking classes and continues today but now I have a studio and work in an art community. I am so thankkful for the artists there. They are a constant source of support. We all may paint in different mediums. We may all have different art backgrounds but it is such a great feeling to know that other artists enjoy your efforts. Yes.....artists do need each other and we also need you! Wed, 14 Dec 2016 15:51:25 CST Why do artists enter art competitions? Today I dropped off a watercolor at a show being held by an art association that I am a member of near my home in Florida. As I helped hang the art I wondered why artists enter art shows. Is it to be part of the art community? Is it because we want recognition? Is it because we hope someone will see our piece and praise it or perhaps even buy it? Is it because we just want to share our art with the world? I am not sure why I entered this competition but I will say I am proud to see my artwork hanging on the wall along with the pieces of both professionals and amateur artists. What do you think? Why do artists enter art competitions? Tue, 15 Nov 2016 15:46:12 CST I am ready to paint! After a break of several weeks I am so read to paint again! I have seen autumn beauty and mountain vistas and imagined capturing these scenes in my own way on watercolor paper. Soon very soon I will be painting. I can't wait!! Tue, 01 Nov 2016 17:35:49 CDT
